Frequently asked questions

Why does the app say my registration is "awaiting approval"?

Every new registration is reviewed by a JSM London admin before full access is granted, so our community stays made up of people known to it. This is usually quick — you can tap "Check again" on the waiting screen once you've been approved, or simply reopen the app.

I've reinstalled the app or got a new phone — do I need to register again?

No. Open the app and enter the phone number or email you originally registered with — if we recognise it, your existing membership will be restored automatically. In some cases, using a new device may briefly return your account to "awaiting approval" as a security check, in which case an admin will confirm it's you.

How do I update my details?

Go to the Profile tab and edit your information there. Note that your first name and surname can't be changed directly in the app, since these were verified when you joined — contact us if these need correcting.

Also note: changing your email or phone number will send your profile back for a quick re-approval, since these are used to confirm who you are.

How do I hide my name from the Members list?

Go to the Profile tab and turn off "Show my name in the Members list." You can turn this back on at any time.

What is the Community Board?

A space to share personal news with the community — births, achievements, celebrations, or news of a loss. Messages are limited to 200 characters, and we ask that it's kept for meaningful moments rather than general greetings like "good morning" or birthday wishes. Anything you post shows your name to other members, and is automatically removed 30 days after posting.

Can I delete a message I've posted on the Community Board?

Yes — you'll see a Delete option under any message you've posted yourself. Messages also delete themselves automatically after 30 days, so there's nothing you need to do for older posts to disappear.

What does the WhatsApp checkbox at registration mean?

If ticked, it lets our admin team know you're happy to be added to the community WhatsApp group, if you're not already in it. You can change this preference at any time from your Profile.

How do Photos work?

Event photos are organised into albums — tap Photos, choose an album, and browse. You can tap any photo to view it full-screen, and save individual or multiple photos to your own device using the download option.

What do the numbers on some Dashboard icons mean?

Those show how much new content is waiting in that section (Events, Funds, Photos, Community Board, or Members) since you last opened it — a quick way to see what's new without checking every screen.

I'm not receiving notifications for new posts.

Check that notifications are allowed for the app in your phone's system settings. If they're already allowed and you're still not receiving them, please contact us using the details above.

Who can see my personal information?

Only the JSM London admin team can see your full details. Messages you post on the Community Board are the one exception — those are visible to all members, along with your name. See our Privacy Policy for the complete picture of what we collect and how it's used.
